What is a ‘Spoonie’?

 

A spoonie is a person who suffers from a chronic illness. The term first originated from a post written by Christine Miserandino entitled ‘The Spoon Theory’. This term is popular among many people dealing with chronic illness as It describes perfectly this idea of limited energy, using “spoons” as a unit of energy.

Why Liverpool?

 

I wanted to name this community Liverpool Spoonie because I live in Liverpool myself and have noticed there isn’t a lot of support in this city for chronic illnesses. I decided to form an online community for the spoonies of Liverpool to come together (from the comfort of their own home) to support each other, talk, make friends, laugh and unite.
